12th Annual Social Work Conference: Managing Ethics, Boundaries, and Safety for In-Home Service Providers

This conference is designed to enhance knowledge, skills, and professional growth for social workers, nurses, and allied health professionals. Participants will:

  1. Describe ethical issues that occur when providing services in the home.
  2. Identify strategies to minimize ethical complaints and issues.
  3. Define liability risks for supervisors and administrators.

Care in the Community: Family Coping

September 27

Family coping is the theme for this year's conference, which will be held at the Radisson Hotel in Wauwatosa. Steve Dykstra will present the keynote, "Family Coping: Guiding families through daily struggles." Breakout sessions will include:

Pediatric Sleep Conference

Join us for the 3rd Annual Pediatric Sleep Conference at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. This conference is designed for practitioners who are committed to increasing their expertise in treating pediatric sleep disorders. The conference will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

HeartCode™ PALS Recognition (Certification)

A self-paced, scenario-based online course (8-12 hours of pre-work on your own computer) and a three-hour skills check-off for PALS certification for health care providers who provide care to critically ill or unstable children. This course includes Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certification. The course fee is $165.

HeartCode™ PALS Renewal (Recertification)

Diabetes Training

Training designed for nurses, school health care providers, and school staff involved in care of students with diabetes. Registration fee is $25.

Classes are offered at both the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Milwaukee Main Campus and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Fox Valley. View the course calendar below for courses in your area.

*NEW CLASS* BABYSITTER and FAMILY TRAINING: This new class is for siblings, grandparents, relatives, friends, babysitters, and anyone who cares for a child with diabetes. Registration fee is $10. Pediatric Vent Certification

This is a two-part course for pediatric ventilator certification. It includes an online study course and a four-hour classroom skills checkoff.

The online course takes from 3 to 10 hours to complete, but it does not need to be done all at once. It consists of self-paced learning lessons that include:

  • Information about the topic with details about key concepts.
  • A lecture and learning activities that apply concepts from the lecture.
  • A post test.

The skills checkoff is a four-hour classroom session. It gives you hands-on experience with tracheostomy care and the ventilator. The class also works through case scenarios to reinforce information learned in the online course.

NOTE: Do not register for this course if you have already purchased an online course from the UW-Madison School of Nursing. We will only schedule skills checkoff classes for individuals who purchase the online course from Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (through www.maxishare.com).

The registration fee is $175.00. (Minimum 3 and maximum 6 participants per class.) Classes fill up quickly, so register early. No additional classes will be scheduled if classes are full.

Pediatric Vent Recertification

Overview

Pediatric RECERTIFICATION is required every 2 years. This recertification course allows registrants to meet minimum skills and knowledge requirements to obtain Recertification to provide respiratory care services. As a prerequisite, registrants must have a current (unexpired) CERTIFICATION and meet the requirements for Respiratory Care Services as defined by the State of Wisconsin. Pre-registration is required. Registration fee is $100.00. (Minimum 3 and maximum 6 participants per class.) Classes fill up quickly, so register early. No additional classes will be scheduled if classes are full.

The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Provider Course (Fox Valley)

Overview

The S.T.A.B.L.E. program is an educational program that focuses exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of prematurely born or sick infants. Based on a mnemonic to optimize learning, retention, and recall of information, S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for the six assessment and care modules in the program: Sugar and Safe Care, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support.

The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Provider Course (Watertown Regional Medical Center)

Overview

The S.T.A.B.L.E. course is designed for health care providers whose responsibilities may require them to provide stabilization or pre-transport care for newly born infants.

NOTE: Registration for this class is only available for employees of Watertown Regional Medical Center. If you are not a Watertown employee, please do not sign up.
