Admistrative Professionals Conference

"Engergizing Your Career: Respect and Likeability - You Can Have Both"

Our Annual Administrative Professionals Conference featuring Kimberly Joy Krueger and Jim Greear, will focus on conflict resolution, sharing control, and assertive communication.

This conference targets Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin administrative, secretarial, clerical and support personnel. Other Children’s employees whose development interests match the topic and staff from affiliates (Children’s Specialty Group, Medical College of Wisconsin) are also welcome to attend.

Pediatric Sleep Conference

Our 5th Annual Pediatric Sleep Conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee West Hotel. This conference will help to improve the knowledge and skills of health care professionals caring for children with sleep disorders. These professionals include physicians, sleep technicians, EEG technicians, respiratory care practitioners, nurses and students of these disciplines.

Conference highlights: Explore surgical interventions in the treatment of pediatric OSA, learn how neurological disorders like seizures impact sleep, review diagnosis and management of Willis-Ekbom, invited speaker, Julie Baughn, Mayo Health System.

Care in the Community

This annual Care in the Community Conference, entitled "Mental Health: The Journey is One Day at a Time," gives families and providers information, resources and strategies that help them work together to give children and youth with special healthcare needs coordinated, family-centered care in the community.

Pediatric Nursing Conference

This annual Children's Pediatric Nursing Conference, entitled "Igniting Your Passion for Nursing Excellence," is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and professional growth of nurses who care for children and their families across all care settings, and to provide an opportunity for scholarly networking.

Registered nurses, advanced practice providers, school nurses, public health nurses, nurse educators, nurse leaders, and other health care professionals interested in and committed to caring for the health of children and their families should join us for our 2014 conference!

A self-paced, scenario-based online course (8-12 hours of pre-work on your own computer) and a three-hour skills check-off for PALS certification for health care providers who provide care to critically ill or unstable children. This course includes Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certification.

The non-refundable course fee is $175.

Diabetes Training

Training designed for nurses, school health care providers, and school staff involved in care of students with diabetes. Registration fee is $25.

Classes are offered at both the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Milwaukee Main Campus and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Fox Valley. View the course calendar below for courses in your area.

Pediatric Tracheostomy Certification

This class is for skilled nurses (RNs or LPNs) who are seeking certification in pediatric tracheostomy care. These classes will review reasons for a tracheostomy, tracheostomy care and stoma assessment, trach changes, and CPR and emergencies for children with tracheostomies.

There will be a skills lab for suctioning and trach changing.

The fee for this 1-1/2 hour class is $50. Fees are non-refundable. This class does NOT include any ventilator education or certification. If you require vent certification, please register for one of our Caring for a Child on a Ventilator Certification courses.

Pediatric Vent Certification

This is a two-part course for pediatric ventilator certification. It includes an online study course and a four-hour classroom skills checkoff.

The online course takes from 3 to 10 hours to complete, but it does not need to be done all at once. It consists of self-paced learning lessons that include:

  • Information about the topic with details about key concepts.
  • A lecture and learning activities that apply concepts from the lecture.
  • A post test.

The skills checkoff is a four-hour classroom session. It gives you hands-on experience with tracheostomy care and the ventilator. The class also works through case scenarios to reinforce information learned in the online course.

NOTE: Do not register for this course if you have already purchased an online course from the UW-Madison School of Nursing. We will only schedule skills checkoff classes for individuals who purchase the online course from Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (through www.maxishare.com).

The registration fee is $175.00. (Minimum 3 and maximum 6 participants per class.) Classes fill up quickly, so register early. No additional classes will be scheduled if classes are full.

Pediatric Vent Recertification

Overview

Pediatric RECERTIFICATION is required every 2 years. This recertification course allows registrants to meet minimum skills and knowledge requirements to obtain Recertification to provide respiratory care services. As a prerequisite, registrants must have a current (unexpired) CERTIFICATION and meet the requirements for Respiratory Care Services as defined by the State of Wisconsin. Pre-registration is required. Registration fee is $100.00. (Minimum 3 and maximum 6 participants per class.) Classes fill up quickly, so register early. No additional classes will be scheduled if classes are full.

The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Provider Course (Fox Valley)

Overview

The S.T.A.B.L.E. program is an educational program that focuses exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of prematurely born or sick infants. Based on a mnemonic to optimize learning, retention, and recall of information, S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for the six assessment and care modules in the program: Sugar and Safe Care, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support.

Who should take S.T.A.B.L.E?

Stabilization is a team effort! Therefore, any health caregiver involved with post-resuscitation and/or pre-transport care of sick newborns would benefit from the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Learner/Provider course, including:

  • Physicians: Pediatric, ER, family practice, and obstetric physicians including residents
  • Nurses: RNs working in L&D, postpartum, nursery, emergency departments Nurse midwives Licensed practical nurses Nursing assistants
  • Others: Respiratory therapists Pre-hospital providers – Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics
